The collection consists chiefly of seals from states and territories of the United States collected by U.S. representatiave Ulysses Mercur and his sons Rodney A. Mercur and James W. Mercur of Towanda, Penn. Most are either separate objects or are attached to letters to the Mercurs. Among them is an appointment for the postmaster of Towanda signed by President Ulysses S. Grant and Secretary of State Hamilton Fish. Miscellaneous items include seals from St. Thomas and St. John, 1847; and Venezuela, 1847; souvenir tickets to the Chicago World's Fair, 1893; and a ticket to the Republican National Convention, 1900.
